A child named Lakshya lives in JC Nagar Kurubarahalli in Mahalakshmi Puram Ward, Bengaluru. She is 14 years old and is challenging with Intellectual Disability. There are 5 members in the family — father Velu, who works as a Driver-cum-Conductor at BMTC, mother Revathi, who is a tailor, two elder sisters who are undergoing education, and Lakshya.
Child has been taken to several hospitals by her parents and has also been given treatment. Mother has to take care of all three children and work at home. She is not in a position to take Lakshya anywhere individually.
While conducting a community survey, the staff of Voice of Needy Foundation identified Lakshya and had an interaction with her parents. The parents shared that they were already aware of the institution and had previously provided therapy for their child. However, during COVID, the parents stopped the therapy treatment.
The parents were motivated to bring Lakshya for an assessment program. The therapist suggested therapeutic activities and advised that regular intervention was needed. VNF initiated the process of obtaining the UDID card and other documents related to disability — which are very necessary for Lakshya to avail the benefits she is entitled to. The child is now provided regular therapy services.
Earlier, the parents were less concerned about the child's therapy needs. Today, they are taking full responsibility and actively encouraging Lakshya's treatment and progress
